It’s no secret that I flippin love a pub wedding. So when Kat and Aaron told me about their wedding plans I was well keen to be their wedding photographer. Kat and Aaron wanted their day to be about spending time with their friends, family and two ADORABLE children, Georgie and Roahn (pronounced the same as my name, which caused me a bit of confusion!). Kat and Aaron chose The Birds in Leytonstone for their relaxed, simple and pretty East London pub wedding.
Let’s hear from Kat and Aaron as they take us through their big day!
Where was your ceremony and reception held?
“Valentines Mansion, Gants Hill: I went to the park a lot when I was little, and my dad used to go with his friends when he was a child too. We had a small and very quick ceremony, as it was the bit that we were both least looking forward to! When it was happening it didn’t feel so bad but we were definitely happier when It was over.
[We had our reception at] The Birds pub in Leytonstone: We really loved the community vibe of the pub, we wanted somewhere all our family and friends could come together to celebrate and have a great time!” – Kat
Tell us about your Love Story:
“We met through friends and were friends for a few years first, with other partners.
We got engaged after we had been together for 4 years, at the top of the Empire State building in New York. We decided to put the wedding on hold while we bought our little flat then had our two children! I started planning the wedding at the end of September 2017 so our wedding day matches up with us being together for 10 years.”
What about your outfits?
“We knew we wanted it to be really casual so the men wore matching trousers and braces from next and pink ties from Asos, they then wore their own choice of shoes and white shirts. They all wore matching monogramed cufflinks as gifts too.
I wore an Oleg Cassini tea length dress. Knowing we would have a small ceremony and then a big party I wanted something I could party in! I wore the most amazing pink glitter irregular choice shoes.”
Tell us about what your squad wore:
“Groomsmen wore the same as the Groom, they wore their own choice of shirts and shoes.
Bridesmaids dresses where from V by Very. Wraps from Primark and necklaces from Tiffany. Shoes were all girls own choices.”
Talk us through your East London pub wedding decor:
“The reason that we wanted a pub wedding is because the vibe of the venue brings its own sort of style. I wanted a really chilled out and friendly vibe, where everyone felt happy to just let their hair down. I chose a pretty simple colour scheme of white with bits of green, pink and metallics and used loads of fairy lights to make the pub feel cosy and look magical!
I used empty spirit bottles to put flowers in and decorated metal tin cans too. I love photos and wanted to incorporate lots into the party. We had a photo booth which was great and on the tables we had little easels with photos on too.
As we were going for a relaxed feel we decided on asking guests to bring cakes instead of having a huge wedding cake!”
How did you find working with me?
“We booked you on the recommendation from someone else! It was great to work with you! You were really friendly and easy to speak to, and seemed to really just ‘slot in’ to our family 😀 Everyone has loved the photos.”
What entertainment did you have?
What’s your planning advice for other couples getting married?
“Do what you like! Try hard not to listen to other peoples criticisms and just do what you love…chances are it’ll all come together.
I’d like to say to my past self to not stress, but she’d just laugh as her eye twitched and would then carry on regardless :D”
