Sheffield Botanical Gardens Wedding Photography
I’m a wedding photographer based in Sheffield, and I provide wedding photography services throughout the area.
I’d love to photograph a wedding at Sheffield Botanical Gardens, and have visited recently to scope out this unique wedding venue and get some ideas for couple portraits. It’s a fantastic location for wedding photographs, there’s a huge variety in both the garden planting and also the landscape.
The Botanical Gardens are made up of thirteen different garden areas that cover 19 acres of land. The gardens are neat and pretty with a wide variety of planting arrangements. The Glass Pavilions welcome visitors to the garden from Clarehouse Road. Designed and built in the early Victorian period, they are Grade II listed and filled with lush tropical greenery.

Sheffield Botanical Gardens Wedding Photo Tips
The Botanical Gardens are an amazing place to have your wedding photos taken. There are lots of ideal locations for wedding photographs. Here are a few of my ideas for how the venue can be used on your wedding day.
Wedding Portrait Photograph Ideas
Obviously the gardens are never ending with beautiful blooms to surround yourself with in your wedding photos. But here are some ideas on what you may want to consider if your wedding day isn’t dry and sunny:
- Inside the glass pavilion amongst the tropical plants is a great option for a rainy day. There’s nothing I love more than a conservatory filled with greenery!
- The Thompson Road Walk has been specifically planted to provide colourful borders in the autumn and winter.
- The Lower Lawns featuring lots of mature trees which bloom with blossom in the early spring.
- The Asia Garden features rhododendrons which bloom in the late spring.
Family Group Photograph Ideas
Group photos generally need space and some shelter. They are best taken out of direct sunlight and with a fairly simple backdrop. For a wedding at Sheffield Botanical Garden I would recommend taking photos in front of the Pavilions for a classic architectural backdrop. Or if you want something softer, Osborn’s Field on the east side of gardens is sheltered spot filled with lush greenery.
Confetti Photograph Ideas
Because of the nature of Sheffield Botanical Gardens as a venue, it is not advised to use regular confetti. However, you can still create a fun and colourful confetti-style moment that is equally joyful. Some ideas are to use petals, twirling ribbons, paper planes or even twinkling bells. The best location for this kind of shot would be on the broadwalk as you exit from your ceremony in the Pavilions.
